Review (continued): The Focus Hatchback comes in four trims - Studio, Style, Zetec and Titanium - with four Duratec petrol engines and three Duratorq diesels. The petrol engines available within the range are 1.4i, 1.6i, 1.8i and 2.0i and automatic transmission is available on the 1.6i and 2.0i. Running costs are fairly modest with combined average fuel economies (in the order given above) of 42.8mpg, 42.2mpg, 40.3mpg, 39.8mpg, 36.7mpg and 35.3mpg with CO₂ emissions (respectively) of 157g/km, 159g/km, 167g/km, 169g/km, 179g/km and 189g/km. The three diesel engines are 1.6 TDCi, 1.8 TDCi and 2.0 TDCi, the last of which is available with Powershift transmission. In the order given above, combined average fuel economies are 62.7mpg, 54.2mpg, 51.3mpg and 48.6mpg and, in the same order, CO₂ emissions of 119g/km, 137g/km, 144g/km and 154g/km. The Duratorq engines perform as well as the petrol versions with especially strong acceleration in the mid range speeds. Other equipment is summarised in the Focus Estate review but safety provision for Hatchback and Estate includes driver and front passenger airbags and, front side thorax airbags, curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP with TCS and EBA, crumple zones, anti-submarining seat bases and rigid body safety cell.
