Review: The Mitsubishi Shogun is an outstandingly capable off-road vehicle that ploughs through difficult terrain where many others would give up. They are available as 3 door SWB and 5 door LWB versions and in four trims - Equippe, Elegance, Warrior and Diamond. All except the Diamond (automatic only) have the option of manual or automatic transmission with sports mode. All are powered by a 3.2 DI-DC 16-valve, turbocharged diesel engine. The 3 door versions return an average of 30.7mpg (manual) and 26.9mpg (automatic) and the 5 door versions 30.4mpg (manual) and 26.7 (automatic).

Review (continued): CO2 emissions are 244g/km (3 door manual), 278g/km (3 door automatic), 246g/km (5 door manual) and 280g/km (5 door automatic). Switching from two to four wheel drive there are three settings, two with a locked centre differential for harsher conditions. Any tendency to roll is well controlled by the monocoque body, four-wheel independent suspension and stability and traction control systems. Engine Brake Assist Control is activated only in the most extreme downhill situations. It has a 3.3 tonne towing capacity, can climb 35 degree inclines and get through 70cm depth of water. In the 7 seater LWB version the third row of seats folds away into the floor or can be removed to leave a flat loading base. All have dual front side and curtain airbags (no curtain bag on 4Work), ABS with EBD, a reversing camera on all but the Equippe, 6 speaker Radio/CD/MP3 system or higher and air conditioning climate control with air filter. The interior is neat, comfortable, functional and robust.
